Deep Ellum Urban Garden - DUG
Deep Ellum is going through another organic transformation. Rather than being a neighborhood created artificially like some areas of Dallas, Deep Ellum has in many ways transformed itself over and over due to the residents that live there. Dallas has a lot of cookie cutter neighboorhoods that seem to be trying to hard to be a community. However, you can't always try to create a community just by placing buildings there and hoping people will move in. Take a look at how lifeless Victory Park and the Arts District is on a normall evening.
One of the most recent initiatives to sprout out of Deep Ellum a group of volunteers who created DUG, Deep Ellum Urban Gardens which is part of the Deep Elum Community Association. The vision of the project is to develop a space for local residents and restaurants to grow produce, while also creating some neighborly time together.
We need more of this in Dallas!
